Richard Fisher qualified in his home city of Edinburgh in 1981 followed by 6 years in the Royal Army Dental Corps, reaching the rank of Major. He achieved DGDP with the faculty of general dental practitioners of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1996. He has an on going clinical attachment with the Orthodontic department at York hospital and held the post of president of York Dental Society between 2007-08.
Richard is married with one daughter at university. He relaxes by walking his black Labrador dog ‘Hamish’ and is a keen skier and windsurfer. He has a sub aqua diving qualification and is a member of a local water-ski and wakeboard club, which he participates regularly with his daughter. At quieter moments, he is also enjoys fly fishing on the river.
Dr Zareen Ashraff qualified in 1996 at Leeds and has a particular interest in Endodontics (root canal treatments). In 2013 she completed a Postgraduate Training Course in advanced endodontic techniques and appropriate use of specialist equipment and materials. Zareen makes the most of her leisure time, enjoying cycling, fitness training and tap dancing. She has taken part in several races to raise money for charities, such as The Great North Run for Asthma U.K. and Castle Howard 10k for Cancer Research and Tapathons for Children in Need. She also likes taking active holidays snowboarding in winter and mountain biking in summer. She loves listening to music, especially guitar based rock, plays piano and drums and enjoys the cinema. Zareen has given birth to her two lovely children, Padme and Lily since joining the practice in 2006.
Dr Mark Bentley qualified from Leeds University in 1997 and since then has worked at several family dental practices in North and East Yorkshire. Mark is an experienced general dental practitioner who enjoys all aspects of dentistry especially prevention and he has a special interest in endodontics (root canal fillings). Mark is a member of the British Dental Association and the Faculty of General Dental Practioners. He is married to Zareen and they have two daughters. Outside of work he loves spending time with the family and enjoys cooking, bread making, cycling and swimming and he recently discovered he likes running too. Mark’s other passion is Yoga, in which he holds a teaching diploma.
Neil qualified in 2009 from Dundee University and completed his vocational training in Kirkcaldy. He remained there for four years, enjoying his dentistry and building an excellent rapport with his patients. He continues to enjoy all aspects of dentistry but in particular advanced crown and bridge restorations. Outwith work Neil is a keen sportsman playing both hockey and cricket to a high level.
Emma Stephenson is a dually qualified Dental Hygienist and Therapist, she obtained her diploma from The University of Leeds in 2004. Emma has been with us since May 2011 as a Hygienist, although she actually trained with us over 15 years ago as a Dental Nurse. Emma has extensive experience in treating all stages of gum disease and is very passionate about her job. She routinely attends training courses to further her skills and knowledge. Emma also enjoys seeing children, she knows prevention and education is key to maintaining good oral health into adult life.
Emma is also trained in Facial Aesthetics, this means she offers muscle relaxing injections, fillers and skin care. She carried out her initial training with Derma Medical, who are one of the largest aesthetic training companies in the country, but she also trained on the prestigious Harley Street and at Guy’s Hospital London.
Emma lives in the small market town of Beverley with her partner Andrew, step children George and Henry and her mischievous cat Tabitha. In her spare time she enjoys yoga and baking cakes for friends and family
Kate originally joined the practice in 1989 when she trained and worked as a dental nurse. She then left to study Dental hygiene at Sheffield dental school before returning some years later. Kate is married to dentist Tim whom she met during her first stint with us in 1993. She has 2 lovely girls Lorna and Maisie. Kate’s interests include cake decorating, wood working and any arts and crafts. She also enjoys walking the family’s cocker spaniel ‘Dodge’.
Cheryl qualified as a hygienist at the Army dental training centre in Aldershot in 1985. She has worked in a great variety of practices including Camberley, Salisbury, Preston, Darlington and even Germany. Cheryl has been with us since 2000 and is a very familiar face at Strensall. She has two grown up children Conan and Coral, enjoys running and the gym in her spare time, and she loves to attend live music concerts. Cheryl has prviously volunteered for Dental charity trips to Tanzania and Cambodia to help deliver much needed dental care.
Lana joined the practice in 2004 having qualified as dental hygienist from Queen’s University Belfast. She likes to spend her spare time with friends here in Yorkshire and in Ireland, and enjoys walking her blackLabrador, Bella and fox red Labrador, Poppy.
Charlotte is originally from Dunnington and had been a patient of the practice for many years. She is our longest serving member of staff having joined the practice as a trainee dental nurse in 1994. She qualified with a National Certificate in Dental Nursing in 1997.
In 2006 she became the Strensall Practice Manager, working closely with Richard Fisher in meeting the requirements set by the Care Quality Commission and the criteria needed to meet Denplan Excel accreditation.
Charlotte achieved a level 5 Diploma in management in 2011.
She loves spending her spare time with her young family, enjoying days out with her husband Chris, sons William and Cameron. They love holidays and short breaks within the UK with a great fondness of the Isle of Man.
Alison joined the practice in 2000 as a trainee dental nurse having previously worked in childcare. She has undertaken clinical nursing and reception duties over the years until in 2011 she became the practice Manager at Dunnington. As Alison’s husband was a member of the Armed forces, she was fortunate to have lived in Germany for a number of years and various locations in the UK. Alison has three grown up children and two black Labradors called Bella and Isla. In her spare time, when she’s not in Scotland visiting relatives, she likes to catch up with friends.
Having previously worked in a children’s nursery, Laura joined the practice in 2007 to train as a dental nurse, subsequently gaining her national certificate in dental nursing in 2009, she has undertaken further training in orthodontics.
Her interests include the gym, films, spending time with her rabbits Toffee and Casper, she particularly enjoys attending live concerts with her wife Janice.
She has completed her sub aqua qualification and enjoys discovering the under water world on her holidays when she can.
Portia has been at the practice for 7 years now having joined us in 2010 as a trainee Dental Nurse. She gained her National Dental Nursing examination at Leeds Dental Institute in 2012. She has previously studied Health and Social Care, Art and Psychology at A level. As well as her nursing and reception duties, Portia is in charge of keeping our notice board up to date with interesting and relevant oral health information.
In her spare time Portia enjoys taking part in British Military Fitness boot camps and socialising with her friends and family.
Kirsty joined us in 2006 having previously been in charge of the photographic department at a local store. She trained and qualified as a dental nurse with us and is also a qualified orthodontic nurse. Kirsty currently splits her time between clinical nursing duties and reception at Strensall. She enjoys gardening and holidays abroad in her spare time to support her partner Jodie’s passion for scuba diving.
Hayley joined the practice in 2005 to train with us and she is now the named cross infection control nurse at Dunnington. She is also qualified to carry out extra duties such as impression taking and fluoride application.
Since joining she has become the a very busy Mum of two beautiful girls and when she is not being the ‘taxi of mum’ she enjoys spending her time baking, walking and when the opportunity arises she and her partner like to enjoy socialising with friends over a nice meal.
Jennifer joined us in 2005 having previously been qualified and worked in childcare. She had taken some time out to travel Australia before returning to train and qualify as a dental nurse with us. Jennifer is from Dunnington originally and is another very longstanding patient of the practice who chose to come to work here. She nurses and works on reception as required. Jennifer likes to spend time with her two boys Jake and Theo, loves to socialise and exercise.
We are delighted to introduce Emma, an experienced dental nurse, who has recently joined us. Emma has worked as a dental nurse for over 15 years in both NHS, private and specialist practices. She has experience in implant and general dentistry. Emma is qualified to carry out extra duties such as oral health education, fluoride application and impression taking. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children as well as keeping fit and she is also a keen muddy obstacle racer!
We are very lucky to have Ashleigh who joined the practice team in 2017. She has a level 3 diploma in dental nursing gained through an apprenticeship at another well established York dental practice. She is keen to extend her knowledge of dentistry through further courses. Being an animal lover, Ashleigh loves spending time with her two dogs. She enjoys socialising with her friends when not at work.
Lily is our trainee dental nurse who joined the practice in April 2017. She previously worked as a care assistant for 2 years and loves to care for others. She is really enjoying her new career and is glad to be part of the team. In her spare time Lily enjoys listening to music and socialising with her friends.
