General York Dental Care for All the Family

We offer all types of general dentistry in York which may be required by you or your family.

Our ultimate aim is to help you understand how to maintain the health of your mouth and minimise the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. We will carry out a comprehensive examination (including dental x-rays if required). If necessary we will arrange for you to visit one of our highly skilled hygiene/therapists for oral hygiene advice (tooth brushing and flossing), and treatment to prevent bleeding gums and treat gum disease or our Oral Health Practitioner.

Children’s dental check-ups are essential from an early age for their developing teeth and mouths. Children should have check-ups from as early as 6 months. This helps to familiarise themselves with the practice and build a good relationship with their dentist. We check that your child’s teeth are growing as they should by providing preventative advice and instructions on their brushing and diet. We also place fissure sealants and fluoride varnish to strengthen and protect their teeth as they grow up.

As well as preventative advice and treatments, we provide a full range of comfortable restorative care should you need it. These include;

Fillings

These may be required due to tooth decay or wear and tear of existing dental treatment. We use a range of materials including tooth coloured fillings that match the colour of your teeth. We can also build up worn front teeth with tooth coloured filling materials to improve the appearance.

Crowns

A tooth shaped ‘cap’ that is cemented over your tooth. It restores its shape and strength as well as improving it appearance. These are often necessary to protect a heavily damaged or broken tooth.

Bridges

A bridge is sometimes an option to replace a missing tooth. The replacement tooth is joined to crowns which are permanently fixed onto the teeth either side of the gap.

Veneers

A veneer is a thin layer of tooth coloured porcelain permanently fixed to the front surface of your anterior teeth to improve their appearance. they can disguise chips, discolouration and spaces between your teeth. If you have crooked or uneven teeth, veneers can help to improve your smile.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is used to save an adult tooth when it becomes infected and causes you pain. this can be the result of tooth decay, large fillings or trauma. Root canal treatment removes the nerve inside the root of the tooth. the root is then filled with a special material to protect it and prevent further infection.

Dentures

Dentures are used to replace a missing tooth or teeth. This can be temporary or permanent depending on your needs. Dentures are not permanently fixed into your mouth and should be removed for cleaning. Dentures are made in a variety of materials including acrylic (plastic), cobalt chrome (metal frames with tooth coloured teeth) and Vaplast flexible dentures.

Tooth Extraction

If the only option is for your tooth to be removed, we can do this for you in a safe and caring manner. We will take the time to make this as comfortable as possible. There are several options for filling the space it leaves behind and these can be discussed with your dentist.
